Very exciting thing that we now get to talk about. Recently, we got to work on a podcast series called Green Room Radio, hosted by Tony Rettman, author of NYHC: New York Hardcore 1980–1990 and host of the No Idols Podcast. Green Room Radio is a weekly podcast featuring legends of the Hardcore Punk scene. The Abstract LA was graced with the presence of Keith Morris, founding member of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, Off!, and FLAG; as well as Todd Youth of Danzig, The Chelsea Smiles, and Glen Campbell. The two icons sat down with Rettman in our Think Tank, and talked about their experiences living the punk scene during the ’80’s and ’90’s. Specifically, talking about their worst gig experiences. Some of the stories these guys had to tell were absolutely insane and terrifying. Which brings us to our next point: Green Room Radio is presented by the upcoming film Green Room starring Patrick Stewart and directed by Jeremy Saulnier.
So how are the film and podcast linked? Well besides the title, the IMDB synopsis goes as such: “After witnessing a murder, a punk rock band is forced into a vicious fight for survival against a group of maniacal skinheads.” After watching the trailer, we are absolutely stoked for this film. Seeing Captain Jean-Luc Picard as a diabolical venue owner is something we didn’t even know we needed.
Whether or not you’re interested in the history of punk, you should listen to the podcast. As previously stated, the stories are phenomenal. And you should definitely go see Green Room when it comes out (April 29th). We will.
